Project Overview

Project: Coal Mine, Australia
Issue on Site: Dust Emissions and Road Stability
RST Product Used: HRMS Using RT9 Haul Road Dust Suppressant

Introduction / background

large
Dust emissions from the mine are causing frictions and problems with the local community in the nearby town plus mine safety being breached. Particular emphasis placed on the 7 km mine entry road as a visible means of dust generation. The entry road stability has been compromised during periods of inclement weather so this was a major KPI at commencement of trial.

Client asked RST to provide a solution for road dust mitigation/stabilisation and we recommended the implementation of HRMS using RT9.

RT9 combines fast acting wetting agents with polymer binders that are developed specifically for each site.

RT9 application

large
RT9 was set up at the appropriate stand pipe. Baseline data was taken and collated.

Over one weekend we had the road opened up by a grader and applied plenty of Kickstart via the water cart. Then grader worked a “cocktail” of Kickstart & RT9 in as construction water, up to final trim stage. Given a light roll (compaction) then RT9 applied as a surface application.

Consistent daily RT9 application from a 26,000 lt semi trailer water cart applying 150 litres per day at a dosage rate of 1:3,000.

Results

large
  • Reduction in visible dust emissions
  • Training of supervisors and employees in the correct application of RT9
  • Improvement of substrate stability
  • Awareness and political statement to the community as a result of the very high visibility of this application
