ENVIRONMENTAL specialist RST is expanding its service reach to the full mining and quarrying materials supply chain with a plant to port material handling solution.

RST developed fine particle management technology that is used for dust suppression, road stabilisation, erosion control, water and sediment solutions, and carryback reduction.

The technology is used on stockpiles and haulage and transfer points, and also as a soil stabiliser aid and moisture absorbent for mines and haul roads.

Through the plant to port solution the company aims to address the production of excessive fine particles from upstream through to haulage and transfer stations.

RST operations and technical director David Handel said fine particles consistently caused so many varying problems for mine operators that a holistic approach had to be taken to solve a range of issues.

He said fine particles became dust when dry, sediment or mud when wet, and were responsible for a wide variety of erosion challenges including road and foundation instability.

Handel claims that without proper treatment haul roads would deteriorate because of problematic swelling and shrinkage due to the characteristics of water, causing multiple material handling issues such as stickiness.
