Queensland mining service provider Reynolds Soil Technologies has started applying its new Superskin dust suppression products at some of Australia's busiest shipping ports and is aiming to secure permanent contracts with various port authorities.

According to the company's technical and development director David Handel, the management of dust control during the transportation of minerals from mines to ship, requires specific procedures and technology.

Mr Handel said that as shipping ports are particularly sensitive environments, considering their proximity to oceans and towns, making its total dust management programs increasingly important.

"We work with a variety of shipping ports throughout Australia who are extremely proactive i managing the entire shipping process," he said.

The latest technology Superskin veneer eco dust suppressant uses 90 per cent less product than any other on the market and is key to the company's operations at shipping ports.

"Shipping ports already work on strict environmental guidelines. We are helping them to meet these guidelines and complement the procedures they already have in place.

"We also offer cost-effective, water-saving solutions and our proven technologies work," he said.

The company is also using purpose designed spray systems to apply foamers, water extenders and crusting agents to transported minerals, so to suppress dust en route to the vessel. Innovative technologies also include the 'Release It', a non-stick agent, which is sprayed on to the trays of the rail wagons and truck trays to effectively eliminate any carry-back to mine sites.

Mr Handel said that RST offers a complete service in dust suppression due to its new and innovative products and application processes.

"This includes managing stockpiles, loading, transporting and unloading throughout the whole material supply chain, ensuring dust is kept to a minimum or totally eliminated," he said.

"Shipping ports are a new growth area for us," Mr Handel said.

"We ensure the transportation and movement of products is completed in the safest and cleanest possible way.

"There is a strong market for our dust management solutions, for the entire process from mines through to the transportation and movement of materials and ultimately to the ports."

RST is currently fielding enquiries from a number of interested shipping ports.
